Model Tenants

I manage a nicer, “A” community.  We had two residents here, they paid rent, and they lived here for years.  They never had a complaint about their apartment, nor did anyone ever complain about them.  One day the unit below them had water leaking in the apartment from upstairs.  The maintenance supervisor went into the unit to find the source of the leak and discovered water coming from the ac blower.  No one was home, and the supervisor noticed that there wasn’t much furnishing in the apartment, which seemed odd.  Once he opened the blower cover, he saw several bricks of cocaine.  He immediately closed the blower door to the ac unit, called me and left the apartment quickly.  Needless to say, the police were called.  A warrant was obtained and the apartment was searched.  The police found 23 kilos of cocaine and $30,000 in cash.  The apartment was a STASH HOUSE all this time!!  It turns out that this apartment’s leaseholder had other several apartments in the city, and they were using the same name.  Of course the name on the lease wasn’t who was living there.  The police said that they would need to stakeout the apartment to see if the resident would come back.  When I asked the officer what they thought about the resident returning, because I was concerned for the office, he mentioned that it was doubtful, because whomever the drugs belonged to, that guy that was supposed to stay put in the house watching the stash is in big trouble…  Most of the time they end up dead.   He also mentioned that this is not uncommon for drug dealers to rent at nicer properties like ours, because it draws less attention to them, than it would at a community with more police activity.

Less than 48 hours later… this was the news headline.

1 day ago: Body found in trash bin-

Police have identified a man whose body was found in a trash bin outside a xxxxxxx apartment complex.  Police say the body was found wrapped in a blue comforter and partially hanging out of the trash bin.  The victim died from a gunshot wound to the head and his death is considered a homicide.

That was the guy, and luckily for us, the body was left in another apartment community’s dumpster, not here…. Ikes!
